Day 90: Rokeby Hut to Boyle Village

Distance today: 17.7km

Distance total: 2326.6km

Time hiked: 5h 37min

Time total: 705h 15min

What a cold morning! The first few kilometer through frost, covered grass are no fun at all. Especially not for my freezing feet. Although there is not a single cloud around, the sun is still far behind the ridge and of no help to warm my feet. So I just keep going until I eventually enter a longer stretch of bush walk. While in the bush, the sun finally appears and warms my feet.

The track is so-so. Some great, well maintained parts as well as some really boggy parts. All the mud brings back vivid memories from the North Island.

At noon I arrive at the Boyle River Outdoor Education Center, where my food parcel is awaiting me. As they have reasonably priced backpacker's accommodation, I decide to have some rest this afternoon and stay here overnight, charging my phone and have a hot shower.

Sure, ice cream and the hot springs are tempting but I'm actually glad that I don't have to resupply in Hanmer Springs. It looks like it's not that easy to hitch a ride there - despite a lot of traffic (a French guy, who I met on the trail was waiting for more than an hour before he apparently got lucky). So I rather wait till Arthur's Pass for my ice cream. And the hot springs are already awaiting me on the next section between Hurunui and Nr 3 Hut :)
